I’ve always loved controllers
I’m just a guy in Richmond, Virginia with a love for video games and controllers. Over many years, I went through a lot of them. Some stopped working, some got drift- some I fixed. Some I broke. I like taking things apart and fixing or modding them. But sometimes, a controller is just dead. I thought it was better to do something than just leave them sitting in a drawer. I have been improving the process of making these sculptures for several years now- it’s not as easy as it may look. The first one I did was an old PS3 controller that was given to me by a good friend who wound up losing his battle to cancer. I turned his old controller into a cool wall hanging that I see every day, and it reminds me of the good times. These controllers are personal and can be very evocative of the time we spent with them in our hands- it’s a lot more than just input for the games we play. It’s memories- of times past, and the people we shared those experiences with. My art is a literal deconstruction of that idea, transformed into something cool to hang on the wall.
